  • 76 % of people agree or strongly agree that America can improve its world image by becoming a leader in GCC.
  • 14% of the people in the community at Suffield have 15+ compact fluorescent light bulbs in their houses.
  • This is relevant to our group because it shows how many people have already taken action to help conserve energy and reverse Global Climate Change. However since there is still 86% of members of the community with less than 15 bulbs there is still a lot of work for us to do.
  • 72% of community members do not know the most effective way to save energy.
  • We still have a lot of work to do to educate our community how to save energy.
  • 38% disagree or strongly disagree that there should be taxes on gasoline and carbon emissions.
  • We need to educate about how having taxes would economically harm gasoline users but would also GREATLY help cut back on the burning of fossil fuels.
  • 8% of community believes that their household energy conservation is poor.
  • We need to have everyone feel that his or her conservation is at least fair. This is a major problem with our community.

Take Away from chapters 1-17:

  • One of our main take aways from Friedman's "Hot, Flat, and Crowded" is that, “The hour is late, the stakes couldn’t be higher, the project couldn’t be harder, the payoff couldn’t be better” (25). Also that we need to combine "going green" with politics in order for real change to come. Friendman writes,“Today, you cannot be either an effective foreign policy realist of an effective democracy-promoting idealist without also being an effective energy-saving environmentalist” (110).
